  • Ask for Contracts: Always request a written contract outlining project details, payment terms, and deadlines.

When working with international clients, freelancers in Egypt should consider the following safe and reliable options:

  • Skrill: Allows freelancers to receive payments without a local bank account. With the Skrill prepaid Mastercard, you can withdraw funds in USD directly, ideal for avoiding currency inflation. Low fees and wide acceptance.
  • PayPal (Egypt): Supports receiving international payments, but Egyptian freelancers can only transfer funds to a Visa-branded card or US bank account. Ensure your Visa card is linked for smooth transfers.
  • Fawry + Western Union: For those without PayPal or bank transfers, Western Union offers cash pickups via Fawry. Reliable but with higher transaction fees and less convenience.

If you hire a foreign freelancer who performs services entirely outside the United States, you generally do not need to withhold U.S. income taxes. To document the freelancer's foreign status, request Form W-8BEN (for individuals) or Form W-8BEN-E (for entities).

U.S. businesses typically do not issue Form 1099-NEC for payments to foreign freelancers. Payments are generally deductible as ordinary business expenses if properly documented. Freelancers are responsible for taxes in their own country.
